I was reading in 1 Chronicles this weekend, and found myself in chapter 28. Aging king David is giving his successor, young Solomon, final instructions concerning the building of the Temple, a dream of David’s that would be carried out by his son. David charged him to know, seek, and follow the Lord all of his days (v.9), gave specific details of all that had been prepared for the construction. Then in v.20, David charged Solomon,
“Be strong and courageous, and act. Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.”
David concluded by informing Solomon of the divisions of priests, Levites, and craftsmen ready to get to work. “The officials also and all the people will be entirely at your command.” Everything, and everyone, was ready.
I was reminded of 2 Peter 1:3 in the New Testament, where we are told, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His glory and excellence.”
Whatever opportunity is before us, whatever job we have been tasked with fulfilling, if we will know, love and follow our Savior Jesus Christ, He promises we will be equipped, supplied, and assisted to carry out whatever He has called us to. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed sometimes, but God promises He will never leave us.
Be strong and courageous.
